The Cobb; Lyme Regis Harbour
One of our favourite spots to visit in Lyme Regis, nothing is more refreshing than hopping on top of the Cobb and walking it’s length with the salty waves crashing below you and the panoramic views of Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast stretched out before you!
With it’s origin steeped in history, the Cobb has been an essential piece of Lyme Regis since it was first referenced in a document from 1328, whereby it’s protective architecture has watched over Lyme’s economic assets for decades. Now though, aside from it’s historical importance and visual beauty, it also offers unique literary connections, especially due to it’s memorable mention in Jane Austen’s 1818 novel ‘Persuasions.’ A connection we are very fortunate to have with our very own Austen’s Garret, the panoramic views of which Jane Austen herself would have gazed across!
The Cobb is wonderful to visit throughout the year, in the stormy winter months the waves crashing against the cobbles is exhilarating to watch and in the summer months it offers a wonderful spot to watch the sun set over the sea to the west.
